…or my Garmin dies. If both happened on the same run, it would be crippling ;)

this is me when this happens
especially when that track happens to be the most embarassing song on your playlist…

I wish I had someone to run to. This video is epic - some of the places she runs are STUNNING. ie. the sunset one in the mountains - beautiful!
Love it! A good laugh and good inspiration!
The days have really begun to fly by. I just realized it has been over a week since my last post, my apolgies…AGAIN :( The good news, less than two months until race day!!!
Although I was unable to attend my Team in Training run this past weekend, I have been trying to keep up with my miles during the week. I’ve been dealing with some knee pain for the past month that has hampered some of my training unfortunately. I’m hoping some extra rest and treatment will help the healing process. Tuesday I went out to attempt a long run. The TNT run was 15 miles, so my plan was to do somewhere between 8-15 depending on how I was feeling. Unfortunately I decided to try to run at 3pm in the Florida heat, needless to say it got the best of me! I was encouraged that my knee felt good throughout the run, but I only made it about 3.5 miles before I started feeling dizzy and decided to stop. I was even carrying a water bottle with me (which I never do) during the run because of the heat, but it didn’t help much.
Yesterday I spent some time swimming laps in the Gulf of Mexico, which was pretty much the most refreshing “workout” I’ve ever had, but plan on getting back on the road this evening for another run.
Sorry for the break in posts, but I’ll try to run through the week quickly.
My 13 miler with Team in Training turned into only a 10 miler sadly. I was running a good pace, but my knee (which has been bothering me the past few weeks) really started acting up and killed my last two miles. It also kept me from completing my final 3 miles. I partially blame myself for doing this run on zero sleep, that certainly didn’t help my body feel any better.
Monday I had a better weigh in. I lost about over 3 lbs, down to 194. Moving back in the right direction!
Tuesday I went out for a 5 mile run, which sadly turned into a 5k due to my knee flaring up again. Kept a good pace the whole way, but didn’t want to extend myself on a mid week run.
Wednesday I decided to dabble with a P90X workout to get some exercise while giving my knee a break. It felt good to get back to the weights (which is odd coming from me). I had decided to step away from my P90X training to focus on my running in fear that I might over exert myself, but may get back into it again soon. I feel like the overall health of my body was better with the P90X workouts actually. I’ve had bad knees for years, but this knee issue didn’t flare up until after I stopped my extra workouts.
Saturday was an 8 mile run with Team in Training. I ran all 8, I started at a slightly slower pace, hovering just above 10 minute miles. I was just under 10/mi at the halfway point. Was exactly at 60 minutes at the 6 mile mark. My 7th mile slowed down toward a mid-10, but I finished with about a 9:10 final mile which kept me just under my 10 minute mile pace. The knee didn’t feel great, but wasn’t bad enough to kill my run this time.
Another busy week ahead, but hope to get some quality workouts and runs in. Also hoping for another positive weigh in tomorrow!
Upon realizing that my training run tomorrow morning was going to be 13 miles, this video immediately came to mind.
That’s right, I’m running 13 miles (a Half Marathon) for practice. Not for a medal or for competition, but for practice. It is moments like this that I am reminded and humbled by all those I am running for. It is called TEAM in Training for a reason. Having said that, I can’t help but chuckle and shake my head a little bit :)
“We talking about practice…”
After taking some time off, it’s time to get serious again. I haven’t determined if I’m going to continue on with phase 3 of my P90X program or focus strictly on my marathon training. I’ve done a few short runs over the past couple weeks, but was unable to do my long Team run last Saturday. Tomorrow’s Team run is 13 miles, not sure my body is ready for it, but I know I am eager for the challenge. The way I’ve been running I think I could possibly turn my training run into a PR, but I certainly won’t over exert myself simply for that reason. Staying healthy is still objective #1 and I’ve begun to deal with a few aches and pains, but nothing serious. Look forward to the return of consistent workouts and updates going forward!!!
